Wednesday Review ~ A creepy and enjoyable mystery

Wednesday Addams heads to Nevermore to cause a stir and solve a mystery in this new Netflix original. Nevermore is a school for “outcasts” and Wednesday is sure to fit in there. Or is she? She uses her newly acquired powers and innate curiosity to help solve a violent mystery in her new small town.

Interesting cast and characters

Jenna Ortega is perfectly cast as Wednesday with just the right amount of snark and sarcasm. She throws in just a hint of facial expression every now and then so you know she’s still in there. But the fun doesn’t stop there. There are so many interesting characters to love. Sweet and dreamy Tyler (Hunter Doohan) who is immediately charmed by Wednesday, kind but possibly sketchy Xavier (Percy Haynes White) who’s also crushing on her, Enid (Emma Myers) Wednesday’s perky roommate, and even “Thing”, Wednesday’s hand friend. Yes, you read that right. Christina Ricci, who starred as Wednesday in the early 1990’s Addams Family movies, even has a role in the show.

Not an Addams Family reboot

Wednesday is great because it will interest multiple generations. I watched it with my 12-year-old daughter and she loved it. It is not an Addams Family reboot. It does include all of the Addams Family characters and they are part of the story but Wednesday is the focus.

A creepy but enjoyable mystery

Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands) is one of the directors and the show has his dark, quirky feel. It is creepy but also enjoyable. It also has my favorite kind of mystery. The kind I think i have all figured out, again and again, but I don’t!

Good Stuff: Really colorful characters, perfect casting, entertaining mystery

Bad Stuff: The monster (cartoon-like)
