Treason Review ~ Secrets, Betrayal, and Amazing Female Characters

Adam Lawrence seems to have a promising career with MI6 but things get complicated when a Russian spy from his past named Kara shows up. He begins to question all of his relationships, professional and personal. Secrets, betrayal, and chaos ensue as Adam tries to figure out who he can trust before it’s too late.

Twists and surprises

I’ll admit that as far as spy thrillers go, there are some unrealistic situations and plot points in Treason. But as I have mentioned before, I watch TV for entertainment value, not so much for realism. So it does not bother me that all the details are not accurate regarding MI6 or CIA protocol, etc. Treason is an intriguing show with twists and surprises.

Strong female characters

What I love about Treason are the strong female characters. Although the lead is Adam Lawrence (Charlie Cox), there are several stand out female characters. Adam’s wife, Maddy (Oona Chaplin) is my favorite character in the series. She is ex-military and a wife and mother. Chaplin plays her perfectly as strong, knowledgeable, controlled, but loving and concerned. Kara (Olga Kurylenko) is the Russian spy who complicates Adam’s life. She is a strong, determined, capable woman. Dede (Tracy Ifeachor) is a CIA agent and friend of Maddy. She is cunning and smart. These characters make the show great.

Short but sweet

Treason is only five episodes so you don’t have to make a big commitment. When I watched the first two episodes I thought it seemed like it would be predictable. But thankfully I kept watching. There are surprises and exciting plot twists. It did not end the way I thought it would. Guess you’ll just have to watch to find out.

Good Stuff: Strong female characters, solid story, quick watch

Bad Stuff: Unrealistic at times (if that bothers you)
