The Last of Us Review ~ Episode 1 “When You’re Lost in the Darkness”

Usually I review an entire series or at least a season of a show but I made an exception for The Last of Us. The first episode made it’s debut on HBO Max on Sunday, January 15th. If you haven’t heard of it yet, it is a post-apocalyptic drama based on a video game of the same name. It is centered around Joel and Ellie, an unlikely pair who are traveling together and must depend on each other to survive in horrific circumstances.

Episode set up

The first episode entitled “When You’re Lost in the Darkness” sets up the series. A large part of the episode tells the important history of Joel and his family before the outbreak takes over. The rest of the episode takes place 20 years later (present day) when Joel meets Ellie.

A great start

This is my absolute favorite genre of tv show. I love post-apocalyptic anything. People’s behaviors when they are forced to survive in these insane circumstances are fascinating. And I can already tell The Last of Us will be no exception. It is off to a great start. It’s intense and intriguing. It is reminiscent of The Walking Dead but I think the storyline will be very different.

This is going to be good

If you like intense, action packed, sci-fi shows about survival then you won’t want to miss this one. I don’t plan to review each episode. I will review the entire first season when it’s over. But I would love to know what you think about the show at any time. Please comment below.

Good Stuff: Great start, intrigue, action

Bad Stuff: Nothing yet
