Special Ops: Lioness Review ~ Fierce Cast, Intense Thriller

Zoe Saldana leads a great cast in this intense thriller about and undercover special ops section of the Marines called the Lioness Program. The program is part of the CIA’s war on terror and places the strongest female Marines in highly sensitive situations. In this case Joe (Saldana) must supervise Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira) as she inserts herself in the world of a dangerous terrorist in order to take him out. Saldana attempts to balance her professional and personal life which proves to be a difficult undertaking.

There are some familiar faces supporting Saldana including Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman. Also, Joe’s supportive husband, Neal, is played by Dave Annable (Yellowstone, Brothers & Sisters). This is a show filled with strong female characters. They are well written, not robotic. They are flawed and complex and driven. Saldana’s character is relatable in that she is trying to balance raising a family with her love of her job. Her situation is extreme but this is still something that many women deal with.

I’m sure that all of the military situations are not completely realistic. As I have mentioned before, I do not watch TV for realism, I watch for entertainment. It doesn’t matter to me if an average women can really do 22 pull-ups. This was an intense, interesting and entertaining story. It is definitely worth your time.

Good Stuff: Great characters, Intense story

Bad Stuff: Possible lack of realism (if that bothers you)

Where to Watch: Paramount +
