Pieces of Her Review ~ An Intense First Season

While out to lunch for her 30th birthday, Andy and her mother, Laura, encounter a horrific act of violence. Laura’s reaction and the media attention that follow quickly turn their lives upside down. People and situations begin to emerge from Laura’s past and Andy realizes that she doesn’t know her mother like she thought she did.

You’ll be instantly hooked!

Within the first few minutes of the series I was all in! As soon as I saw Laura’s intense reaction to this violent act I could not wait to find out her story. Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Little Miss Sunshine) is convincing as Laura. She seamlessly switches back and forth between loving mother and her complex past personality. She makes you wonder who she really is. Andy (Bella Heathcote) wonders too and through her investigation and some flashbacks the audience begins to put the messy pieces together.

A thriller worth watching

The story is much deeper than what it appears at first glance. It involves family, abuse, corruption, and violence. All the bad stuff. Pieces of Her is a suspenseful psychological thriller that proves you can’t hide from your past forever. It is not exactly uplifting but it’s well acted and an intriguing story. Definitely worth a watch.

Good Stuff: Surprising and suspenseful story, great acting

Bad Stuff: Initial intensity faded some (to be expected i guess)
