Oldies but Goodies

Sometimes (rarely) I get all caught up on the new shows and I have nothing to watch. In that case, there are so many shows from the past that are still amazing. So I thought I would give some very brief thoughts on some older shows for when you want to watch a “classic”.

Prison Break is one of my all time favorite shows. It is a smart, non-stop thrill ride. After an innocent man goes to prison, his brother intentionally gets arrested and sent to the same prison just to break them both out. Just watch it. You won’t be sorry. (Image courtesy of Hulu)

Greek follows nerdy Rusty Cartwright and his sister, Casey, through their adventures in the college Greek system. I fell in love with this show and it’s combination of light-hearted shenanigans and great character relationships. It’s funny and you get lost in the characters. (Image courtesy of Hulu)

Oh the dysfunction! Bloodline is seriously good. A family’s secrets begin to unfold when one of it’s members returns home. And these secrets are dark! The story and acting are impressive. (Image courtesy of Netflix)

Jane is accidentally artificially inseminated. As a devout Catholic she has never had sex. Yes, it sounds ridiculous. But Jane the Virgin is a lovely show. It’s funny and heartwarming and also has mystery and fantasy. And a love triangle like no other. This is one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve watched. (Image courtesy of Netflix)

The Braverman family faces infidelity, divorce, infertility, autism, illness, and any other challenge you can imagine in Parenthood. And they face it all together. The cast is stellar and the episodes are real and moving. Just thinking about it makes me want to watch it all over again. (Image courtesy of Hulu)

Jennifer Garner is perfect as Sydney Bristow, the girl next door who’s recruited right out of college by the CIA and transformed into an international spy. And then the story gets deeper. In Alias, she kicks butt and charms everyone. It’s exciting, twisty, and action packed. Enjoy the ride! (Image courtesy of Hulu)

Someone is going to pay on Revenge. Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) is a troubled young woman who moves to the Hamptons. She joins the social elite to exact revenge on the people who wronged her father many years prior. It’s an exciting psychological thriller full of twists and drama. You’ll like it if you like to see the bad guys get what they deserve – and I do! 😉 (Image courtesy of Hulu)

Flight 815 crashes on a mysterious deserted island. The survivors must live and work together to figure out a way to be rescued. The island is full of secrets. And so are the survivors. If there are actually people who have not watched Lost, you should really get on that. It’s a classic. (Image courtesy of Hulu)

The Leftovers is possibly the strangest, but most interesting show I’ve watched. Three years ago 2% of the world’s population just vanished and no one knows why. The show follows several people in a small New York town still coping with the event. It’s weird in the best way. (Image courtesy of HBO Max)

The Vampire Diaries follows the lives of the young people of Mystic Falls. The Salvatore brothers show up in town and meet local, Elena, causing lots of havoc and stirring up lots of supernatural shenanigans. Did I mention they’re Vampires? I always say this show has the prettiest people. But also, it’s romantic and exciting and action packed. Image Courtesy of HBO Max.

A no-nonsense law professor and a group of her law students become entangled in a murder plot in this suspenseful thriller. How to Get Away With Murder will keep you guessing throughout the series. It’s full of twists and turns. It is a roller coaster ride for sure. Image Courtesy of Netflix.

A seriously intense show about counter terrorism. Each episode of 24 is exactly 1 hour of real time and the clock is always ticking. The fate of our country is basically in the hands of one man…Jack Bauer. Keifer Sutherland is at his best saving the world in all 9 seasons of this explosive show. Image Courtesy of Hulu.

One of the greatest shows of our time. Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher, who begins making and selling crystal meth after he finds out he’s dying. Amazing acting, intriguing story, and so many great characters to love and hate. If you haven’t seen this one, you need to try it. Image Courtesy of Netflix.

If sci-fi is your thing, and even if it isn’t, check out Firefly, a fun, futuristic, action-adventure series. Nathan Fillion stars as Mal, the captain of a small spacecraft leading a crew of rebels and misfits as they attempt to avoid various forms of trouble. It was canceled too soon but was completed with a movie called Serenity. Image Courtesy of Hulu.

Parks and Recreation is about the shenanigans of the employees of an Indiana parks department. It sounds absurd because it is. But in the best way. The cast includes Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman, Rob Lowe, and Aziz Ansari just to name a few. They are hysterical. “Treat yo self”. Image Courtesy of IMDB.

After being mistaken for much younger, a 40-year-old single mother pretends to be in her twenties to restart her career and her love life. And it gets very messy in the most fun and amusing ways. It’s funny, sweet, a little dirty, and the characters have tons of chemistry. Younger is a really fun show to watch. Prepare to binge! Image Courtesy of Hulu.

After Nancy’s husband unexpectedly dies she finds herself in financial crisis and becomes the neighborhood marijuana dealer to support herself and her two sons. As you can imagine this creates many seasons of high stakes drama and shenanigans. Weeds is addicting. I don’t care what they say. Image Courtesy of Hulu.

Shameless is the story of the Gallagher family. Six kids growing up in the south side of Chicago raised by the oldest sister, because their father is a selfish alcoholic and their mother left them. It is insane and not for everyone. But the acting is truly beautiful and behind all the grit there is a ton of heart in this show. Image courtesy of Hulu.

A brilliant college dropout on the run from a bad drug deal ends up working with a top New York lawyer, as a lawyer. Can they pull off this deception? Honestly, I wasn’t that interested in Suits at first but I became completely engrossed in these characters. And I fell in love with Harvey Specter 🙂 Image courtesy of Netflix.
