Mare of Easttown Review ~ A Riveting Murder Mystery

Usually I only review new shows or new seasons of shows but I made an exception for Mare of Easttown which was released way back in 2021. I finally got a chance to watch it and it was so good that I wanted to share it with you. Mare is the name of the main character played by Kate Winslet. She is a police detective in a small Pennsylvania town who must investigate the death of a young girl while dealing with her own family troubles.

Life is not simple for Mare. Investigating a crime in a small town where you know everyone and most of the people are your friends is not easy. Also, her overcritical mother lives with her and her ex-husband basically lives in her backyard. She is also dealing with the loss of her son.

An amazing cast

Mare of Easttown grabbed me from the very beginning with intense characters, dramatic plot lines, suspense and mystery. Kate Winslet and the rest of the amazing cast hold their own through some seriously emotional scenes in a show that deals with grief, loss, suicide, teen pregnancy, and abuse. There are recognizable faces like Jean Smart (Designing Women) who plays Mare’s mother and Evan Peters (American Horror Story) who plays fellow officer, Colin. But the rest of the cast is amazing also.

It will keep you guessing

It’s one of those shows that’s so well written that I kept thinking I knew who the killer was, but I didn’t. And I didn’t figure it out this time. And I love that so much. Everyone looked so guilty. I questioned everyone. It was great.

This one is worth your time

Mare of Easttown is not uplifting but it’s just so good. The acting and the writing is fantastic, the story is strong, and the relationships are interesting. I definitely think it’s worth your time. Let me know what you think of it in the comments.

Good Stuff: Great story, strong cast

Bad Stuff: Only one season

Where to Watch: Max (HBO)
