Emily in Paris Season 3 Review ~ Consistently Fun and Suprising
**Warning** Do not read this if you have not watched previous seasons of Emily in Paris. It is a spoiler free review of SEASON 3 but does contain information from prior seasons.
When we last left Emily she was at a crossroads in her personal and professional life. She had made a pact with her friend, Camille, to not date Gabriel. But after weeks of suppressing her true feelings for the sake of their friendship, that was proving too difficult. Emily (Lily Collins) attempts to profess her feelings to Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and realizes she is too late. Camille has already moved in with him! Also, isn’t she still dating Alfie? On the work front, Sylvie has left Savoir and actually wants Emily on her team. Season 2 ends with Emily telling Sylvie she has made her decision about whether she will join her or not. And this is where Season 3 picks up.
Some characters are changing
All of the characters you love are back this season. I love to see how characters change over the course of a show. Season 3 shows Emily a little more controlled, a little less impulsive. She is still juggling her relationships and her career. She is being supportive of Camille and Gabriel’s relationship while trying to maintain friendships with both of them. But their situation tends to lead to some rocky moments. Sylvie has changed the most this season. She is much less harsh and more vulnerable. She has softened towards Emily. I find her character more likable but I almost feel like she’s lost some of her edge.
Paris is a central character
Paris is still a character of it’s own. The city is showcased in just about every scene. The art, music, food, language, architecture and especially the fashion are integral parts of the show. The beauty of Paris and surrounding areas really set the tone for this dreamy, romantic show.
The relationships are where it’s at
Emily in Paris has some serious relationship drama, if you’re into that kind of thing (which I am). I was looking forward to finding out about Emily’s complicated love life. I’m definitely Team Gabriel even though he made a ridiculous error in judgement last season by choosing Camille. The love triangle(?) gets even more murky in season 3 if you can believe that. Other couples on the show are keeping it interesting with their hardships as well. Emily’s roommate, Mindy and her boyfriend Benoit experience some ups and downs, as do Sylvie and photographer beau, Erik.
Consistent, fun, and a cliffhanger
Overall, the basic equation for season 3 is the same as past seasons. Emily has to deal with the complexities of her relationships and her work life which frequently collide. But i did find this season to be a little less chaotic. Maybe Emily is maturing as time goes on. It’s a quick and fun show to watch. The will they or won’t they relationship between Emily and Gabriel keeps me coming back. And there might be something else at the end of Season 3 that will keep me interested in a season 4!
Good Stuff: Vibrant characters, relationship drama, Parisian culture/scenery
Bad Stuff: More subtitles this season, changes to Sylvie’s character (excessive)
Where to watch: Netflix
