Based on a True Story Review ~ A Killer Binge

Based on a True Story is about a broke Los Angeles couple who decide to start a true crime podcast when they realize they unknowingly befriended a serial killer. Ava (Kaley Cuoco) is a pregnant realtor who is already obsessed with true crime. Her husband, Nathan (Chris Messina) is a former tennis star struggling at his current job. When the local serial killer, the West Side Ripper, basically falls in their lap they can’t resist taking advantage of this opportunity.

Funny and Dark

The show is funny but also dark at times. There are elements of slasher type movies and it can be a little gory. There are some hallucination scenes as well which, I think, are supposed to make it shocking but instead just make it confusing.

Complicated relationships

I really liked the chemistry between Ava and Nathan. Their relationship was believable and relatable (other than the whole murder thing). Their relationship with the West Side Ripper leads to awkward and cringey shenanigans. It’s a weird relationship to be sure.

A quick binge

Every episode was so easy to watch. It is a quick binge. I watched all 8 episodes in two days. It’s fast paced and each episode held my attention easily. If you are looking for something fun and quick with and edge this might be the one for you!

Good Stuff: Relatable characters, fun story

Bad Stuff: Hallucination scenes, not for faint of heart (gory)
