Acapulco Review ~ An Enjoyable Getaway

Maximo has always dreamed of working at the Las Colinas Resort. He finally gets his chance and it’s all that he’s hoped for! Well, mostly. There are some challenges along the way but Maximo (Enrique Arrizon) is not afraid of a little hard work. He has big dreams and goals for the future. Acapulco follows Maximo as he puts out fires at the resort while attempting to date and take care of his family. He learns some life lessons along the way about love, family, and friendship.

A fun 1980’s setting

There are two timelines in the show: present day and the 1980’s. An older Maximo is telling his 14-year-old nephew the story of his time at Las Colinas. So there are flashbacks. Acapulco is so much fun to watch. It is mostly set in a 1980’s Mexican resort. The characters and the scenery are so colorful and bright. The music, clothes, and hairstyles all match the decade, which I loved.

Memorable characters

There are great characters too! Hector (Rafael Cebrian) the head pool attendant and hysterical flirt (I think his hair is a character too), Lupe (Regina Orozco) the scary laundry lady with no facial expression, and sweet Memo (Fernando Carsa), Maximo’s best friend. The list could go on and on.

A light and fun show to watch

Acapulco is light and funny. Before I knew it though I was really caring about the characters. Somehow, even the ones that seem annoying at first have some redeeming qualities. At this time it has not been renewed for a third season but i feel satisfied with the end of season 2. Well, mostly 🙂

Good Stuff: 80’s setting, colorful characters

Bad Stuff: So many subtitles!! (Like at least 50%) You have been warned.
