The Walking Dead: Dead City

It finally happened. The first spin-off series since the end of The Walking Dead has finally aired. Dead City starring Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) has aired. It appears that a few years have passed as Maggie’s son, Hershel is a teenager. He has been taken by an old acquaintance of Negan which is why Maggie enlists Negan’s help to get Hershel back.

The reasons why they are both in Manhattan slowly unfolds. But I like how they have strongly reminded the audience who Negan is now, who he once was and what he has done to Maggie. It is sometimes easy to forget the things he has done and the show has added some nice reminders while still showing that he has changed over the years.

I’m not crazy about the villains in the show. They seem more creepy than intimidating or scary. I think because we have seen such horrific villains in the Walking Dead Universe the bar has been set very high. Someone has to be pretty intense to scare Negan or Maggie.

Otherwise I enjoyed the show. It’s similar in ways to The Walking Dead but the storyline and the setting is very different. I can’t wait to see where it’s going in future seasons. It has already been renewed for Season 2!
